The Patterson Foundation Shares Strategic Decision-Making Consulting Opportunity with Regional Nonprofits

September 10, 2020
SARASOTA, Fla. (Sept. 10, 2020) – The Patterson Foundation has selected six organizations in our region to receive 1:1 consulting to strengthen their efforts through participation in Advancing Mission Thrivability, an opportunity for nonprofits to learn ways to make mission-focused, economically-informed decisions for their programs, products, and services.

Nonprofits often have to make tough decisions regarding their operations, staffing, service delivery, financial management, and more to sustain their efforts. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced these organizations to make even more critical choices while navigating an uncertain landscape. Through Advancing Mission Thrivability, The Patterson Foundation aspires to help nonprofits learn mission-centric, economically informed approaches to decision-making that can be used throughout the pandemic and beyond to strengthen their impact.

“Nonprofits throughout our region are shifting their strategies to meet this uniquely challenging moment in a resource-challenged world,” said Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation. “With Advancing Mission Thrivability, The Patterson Foundation is providing the opportunity for these organizations to emerge from today’s challenges stronger by assessing their operations for alignment with both their greater purpose and bottom line. From the initial group of nonprofits participating in Advancing Mission Thrivability, these six organizations have demonstrated the leadership, willingness, readiness, capacity, and culture necessary to take a deeper dive into this decision-making approach and ways it can strengthen their work.”

Fifty-six regional nonprofit organizations participated in Advancing Mission Thrivability through a series of online learning sessions presented by No Margin, No Mission, a national consulting practice and social enterprise. The sessions helped each nonprofit explore ways to strengthen their organizations by making decisions grounded in their mission focus and economic considerations.

Following the completion of the online sessions, participating organizations committed to embracing this decision-making approach had the opportunity to apply for an additional learning opportunity. The Patterson Foundation is re-engaging No Margin, No Mission to provide 1:1 consulting to a select group of these nonprofits over four weeks, in which they will examine decisions for their own specific programs.

The organizations participating in this extended consulting opportunity include:
  • The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature
  • Florida Cultural Group, Inc.
  • Habitat for Humanity Charlotte County
  • Habitat for Humanity Manatee County
  • Our Y, Inc.
● Punta Gorda Symphony
