When Community Steps Forward: A Full-Circle Moment in Digital Access
Posted on January 09, 2026 by Lyndsey Smith, consultant with The Patterson FoundationSome stories come full circle in ways you never expect. Earlier this year, a simple dinner conversation helped one woman regain digital access at a moment when she needed it most. That moment reminded me of the power of everyday connections. Now, months later, that same story has circled back, but this time through the generosity of an organization.
Through the Digital Access for All (DA4A) Device Drive, the team hopes to gather enough gently used laptops to support the individuals waiting for technology, thanks to Sarasota Technology Users Group (STUG). The need for devices is always growing, but community members across the region are stepping forward with donations.
One organization in particular, where the original conversation about Angela unfolded, reached out to let us know they were preparing to retire a large number of their devices. Instead of recycling them, they asked if DA4A could put them to use, hoping to create the same kind of impact that Angela experienced months before.
It was a moment of alignment. One simple conversation turned into action, and that action inspired more.
Thanks to the organization's donation, dozens of devices will soon be refurbished by STUG, cleaned, upgraded, and prepared for others who need them. These devices will support job searches, telehealth appointments, education, financial stability, and the ability to stay connected with loved ones. Each one represents a door opening for someone who may have felt stuck or disconnected.
If you or your organization has devices ready for retirement or replacement, we would love to give them new life. Together, we can continue turning everyday moments into meaningful impact.
