Sharing the Impact of TPF Endowments

Posted on August 29, 2022 by The Patterson Foundation
With each of its initiatives, The Patterson Foundation approaches its work in philanthropy with an eye toward long-term outcomes. Throughout that work, we have learned that it takes more than careful visioning and focus to achieve sustainable impact through philanthropy. Having the right tools — and using them responsibly — is essential to creating that impact.

Endowments are among The Patterson Foundation’s most effective tools for strengthening the impact of its work in perpetuity while responsibly managing its assets. We have utilized endowments since our inception in 2010, with several playing a key role in our nine legacy initiatives unveiled as we began our work. In the years since, we have invested in several more that are aligned with TPF initiatives and managed by our trusted collaborators in philanthropy.

Those investments create a steady stream of resources to power the work of The Patterson Foundation’s initiatives in perpetuity. As of August 2022, TPF endowments have built more than $15 million total for initiatives actively strengthening people, organizations, and communities.

In a new section of our website, readers will find dedicated overviews of The Patterson Foundation’s endowments — from the Sister M. Lucia Haas Scholarship Endowment created on day one of TPF’s work to the John T. Berteau Opportunity Endowment Fund announced in 2021 in honor of our Governing Board’s founding Chair and Chair Emeritus. This section features pages on each endowment TPF supports, along with the history, intent, and collaboration behind them. These overviews are designed to illustrate an additional layer of impact within TPF’s initiatives.

By their nature, The Patterson Foundation’s endowments work in steady, measured ways, often as a lesser-seen — but mighty — component within our initiatives. In shining a much-deserved spotlight on our endowments, we hope to demonstrate the role of this philanthropic tool in creating significant, sustained impact well into the future.
