Harwood Exploratory: Leveraging Connective Tissue to Empower a Community

Posted on June 05, 2012 by Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation

Building connective tissue to create new realities is a core value of The Patterson Foundation. We believe in learning from the best and brightest by intentionally connecting with others. This approach is at the core of our partnership with Rich Harwood and The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation as we work with them to explore methods to enhance the Sarasota County community.

In addition, we are so very excited to be working with Kathy Baylis, former president and CEO of the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County. Kathy is the initiative consultant on this project and will liaise with The Harwood Institute as the initiative matures.

During her 16-year tenure at the EDC, Kathy was a driving force in the transformation of the organization and economic development countywide. As a consultant to The Patterson Foundation, her leadership will be a tremendous asset as this exploration to enhance our community evolves.

Why partner with The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation? The Bethesda, Md.-based nonprofit, nonpartisan organization seeks to spark fundamental change and authentic hope in American public life.

The Harwood Institute works with communities nationwide to facilitate conversations on community advancement. Harwood uses its time-tested techniques for assisting community change to empower community members to make realistic progress in advancing their communities.

The Institute’s approach is a good match for our values, and we look forward to sharing more as the initiative takes shape!
