The Patterson Foundation Strengthens 2021–2022 Season of Sharing Campaign

Posted on November 08, 2021 by The Patterson Foundation
If this decade has emphasized any lessons so far, it's to expect the unexpected. Many in our region have learned this firsthand in the form of unforeseen financial challenges falling during uncertain times — challenges that can threaten a person's ability to cover the essential payments necessary to maintain their safety, security, and dignity.

That's why The Patterson Foundation is continuing its support for Season of Sharing, our region's vital, time-tested, and trusted safety net, helping our most vulnerable in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto counties. For more than 21 years, Season of Sharing has harnessed the generosity of community donors to help more than 38,000 local individuals and families get emergency assistance with housing, childcare, utilities, transportation, and other essential needs.

For the 2021-2022 holiday season, The Patterson Foundation is strengthening Season of Sharing with contributions of $100,000 each time the community raises $500,000 from now through Jan. 31, 2022 — with no cap on the number of $100,000 contributions donors can activate throughout the campaign. These additional $100,000 contributions provide generous givers in our region another incentive to join the community movement of neighbors helping neighbors regain their stability following an unforeseen crisis.

Season of Sharing has raised more than $30 million since 2000, when the Herald-Tribune Media Group and the Community Foundation of Sarasota County created the annual campaign. The Patterson Foundation has contributed more than $6 million total in donor incentives since joining Season of Sharing's network of philanthropic partners in 2010.

Season of Sharing gifts are applied thoughtfully but swiftly thanks to the contributions of time and talent by more than 50 fiscal agents and community agencies throughout Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto counties. These organizations arrange and send payments on behalf of families and individuals in our region who are struggling to make ends meet. Contributions like these allow Season of Sharing to operate with no administrative fees or overhead expenses, ensuring that 100 percent of all funds raised go toward helping families and individuals in crisis.

Amid some of the darkest days of the COVID-19 pandemic, 3,252 donors from our generous region propelled Season of Sharing to new heights — raising a record-breaking $3.7 million total from nearly 3,800 gifts during the 2020–2021 campaign. This total included six individual $100,000 contributions from The Patterson Foundation activated by community donors.
