The Patterson Foundation Contributes Second Matching Gift as Season of Sharing Soars to $1 Million

Posted on December 10, 2020 by The Patterson Foundation
For decades, the Season of Sharing campaign has brought people together to help their neighbors regain their stability following an unforeseen crisis. Despite the financial strains each of us have endured this year, our community remains as generous as ever.

In a matter of a few weeks, more than $1 million has been raised through Season of Sharing to assist families and individuals in crisis in our community. The Patterson Foundation is proud to contribute a second $100,000 gift to the Season of Sharing campaign in recognition of the additional $500,000 raised through community donations. The Patterson Foundation will continue to make $100,000 contributions for every $500,000 raised between now and Jan. 31, 2021. There is no cap on the number of $100,000 gifts donors can activate throughout the campaign.

The Herald-Tribune Media Group and the Community Foundation of Sarasota County created Season of Sharing to help individuals and families cover everyday expenses crucial to their safety and stability, such as rent, child care, and medical bills. Since its inception two decades ago, Season of Sharing has given more than $28 million to those in need throughout Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto counties.

“The Patterson Foundation is grateful for the region’s continued commitment to helping our neighbors in need,” said Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation. “While this has been a difficult year for many families and individuals, it is inspiring to see our community coming together and supporting each other through this time-tested, trusted resource. In the midst of a pandemic, our region has raised an additional $500,000, and The Patterson Foundation is proud to contribute a second $100,000 gift to the Season of Sharing campaign.”

Traditionally, the campaign only runs during the holiday season. However, due to COVID-19’s far-reaching impact, Season of Sharing was reactivated earlier this year to help meet the emerging financial needs of individuals and families throughout the region. The pandemic has forced people to request funds who wouldn’t need to otherwise. More than 35,000 families in our community have received aid through Season of Sharing since 2000.

The Patterson Foundation has been a longtime supporter of Season of Sharing, contributing $5.7 million since 2010. Beyond The Patterson Foundation’s support, a collective donation of time, resources, and expertise by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, media partners, and nonprofit agencies ensures that every dollar raised through Season of Sharing is distributed directly toward helping those in need.
