The Patterson Foundation Brings Nonprofit Leaders Together to Connect, Learn, and Thrive
Posted on March 06, 2026 by Sara Leonard, MBA, CFRE, Fueling Dynamic Fundraising LeadThe Fueling Dynamic Fundraising (FDF) initiative hosted a Thrive & Dine event that brought together 56 nonprofit staff and volunteers from 43 organizations, with all four FDF cohorts represented. The goal was simple: mix meaningful learning with genuine connection and good food. Great news, it worked! The room was filled with the kind of collaboration and community that defines the program.
The FDF consulting team, including Jennifer Abbott, Josephine Eisenberg, Victoria Finley, Alicia Exantus, and Sara Leonard led conversations on some of the most important topics in sustainable fundraising, including donor stewardship, donor-advised funds, board engagement, and storytelling about nonprofit impact. Their insights sparked lively discussions and plenty of “aha” moments.
The conversations were energetic and real, with participants swapping successes, challenges, and examples from their own organizations. Many said connecting with peers who are facing similar opportunities and challenges was just as valuable as the content itself. One attendee summed it up perfectly: A great opportunity to build new skills and learn from others.
Attendees talked about the ways FDF is reshaping their fundraising work and the ripple effects the initiative is having across other areas of their organization. From improving donor communications and strengthening stewardship plans to helping board members feel more confident and involved in fundraising. These stories show how the FDF principles are taking root across the region.
Participants also noted that the chance to hear a variety of perspectives, both in small groups and across the room, added depth to their experience. One comment captured this well: “It was great to participate in breakout discussions while still absorbing insights from other conversations.”
True to its name, the dine portion of Thrive & Dine added an extra layer of casual connection. Over shared meals, participants had the chance to relax with no agenda, celebrate their progress, and build relationships with peers who understand both the opportunities and the challenges of nonprofit fundraising.
The FDF initiative is just one way The Patterson Foundation supports people, organizations, and communities. By investing in learning and connection, the foundation helps ensure that nonprofits and the communities they serve can continue to thrive.
