The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) Replaces The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBB)

Posted on January 14, 2022 by Kiarra Louis, Initiative Support Coordinator with The Patterson Foundation
In May 2021, the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) began accepting applications for the Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB), a temporary federal assistance program designed to help qualifying households afford internet service during the pandemic. The program discounted eligible households’ internet by up to $50 a month through federal reimbursement directly to the internet service provider.

Now, we’re excited to share that the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) has replaced EBB. This new long-term benefit will help lower the cost of broadband service for eligible households struggling to afford internet service. The $14 billion Affordable Connectivity Program provides a discount of up to $30 per month toward broadband service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for qualifying households on qualifying Tribal lands. The benefit also provides up to a $100 per household discount toward a one-time purchase of a computer, laptop, or tablet if the household contributes more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase through a participating broadband provider.

The graphic below compares EBB and ACP based on the FCC's information.

Households enrolled in the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program as of 12/31/21 will continue to receive their current monthly benefit until March 1st, 2022. Recipients can learn to stay enrolled after March 1st by visiting

We encourage individuals and organizations to help raise awareness about ACP, especially if you or someone you know may qualify, to ensure all who can benefit from this program have the opportunity to apply.
