Remake Learning Days Highlights Educational Experiences Across the Suncoast
Posted on November 15, 2021 by The Patterson FoundationWhen students have trouble relating to the material they're learning, it's harder for them to understand and apply it both in and out of the classroom. Experiential learning, the process of learning through experience, solves this by making concepts and data more tangible by applying them to hands-on projects with real-life results. It involves trial by error, accelerating and improving attitudes toward learning — effectively bridging the gap between theory and practice in a manner that resonates with students on a deeper level.
The Suncoast is blessed with a plethora of experiential learning opportunities — including many that remain untapped. Developing opportunities to connect with these opportunities has the potential to broaden their use while creating shared learning experiences for children and families in our region.
That's why the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading is bringing the globally recognized Remake Learning Days program to our region in 2022. Beginning Friday, April 29 and running through Sunday, May 8, Suncoast Remake Learning Days is a 10-day festival that will feature innovative experiences and opportunities for youth to develop their sense of creativity, perseverance, and curiosity.
Remake Learning Days Across America (RLDAA) events take place in communities nationwide. During Remake Learning Days, a variety of organizations — schools, museums, libraries, after school organizations, early child care centers, universities, media centers, tech startups, and more — open their doors to welcome families or travel into neighborhoods to host hands-on, relevant, and engaging educational experiences for youth of all ages (pre-K through high school) and their families, caregivers, and educators.
Global education nonprofit HundrED recently recognized Remake Learning Days Across America as one of the world's brightest innovations in K-12 education. Through its engagement in the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, our region is one of 16 communities invited to participate in this national program with the generous support of The Patterson Foundation.
"As our world grows ever more connected, we are discovering new opportunities to apply programs and concepts proven to foster a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom," said Beth Duda, director of the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading for The Patterson Foundation. "Suncoast Remake Learning Days is an opportunity for our region to invest its collective assets toward better outcomes for children and families during ten days of fun, engaging events."
Suncoast Remake Learning Days events will be organized by learning themes, including the arts, maker spaces, outdoor learning, science, technology, and youth voice. In addition, there will be professional development opportunities for school, out-of-school, child care, and non-traditional educators. Through The Patterson Foundation's support, these multi-generational, hands-on learning experiences will be robust, free, accessible, and open to the public.
Individuals, organizations, and businesses interested in hosting or supporting a Suncoast Remake Learning Days event are encouraged to attend one of the following informational webinars:
