Rallying support to fulfill the Season of Sharing match

Posted on January 28, 2013 by Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation

For the past several years, we've issued a $500,000 match for new or increased donations to Season of Sharing, the campaign that benefits individuals and families on the verge of homelessness without overhead charges or agency fees.

Why do we do this?

We believe we live in one of the most generous regions in the world.

Period.

We feel this in our souls and have watched the philanthropic heart of our community respond time and again.

Now is the time to rally together to make sure none of that match money is left on the table and ensure that those additional 500 families who will be helped by a successful match are not left unassisted.

We've always believed everyone can be a philanthropist. Each year, Season of Sharing demonstrates that. In 2011-2012 alone, three quarters of the 3,100 gifts were $100 or less.

We are so very grateful and touched by the generosity of Chuck and Margie Barancik, who will donate $100,000 to Season of Sharing to help fulfill the match if our community rallies together to raise $60,000 in new or increased donations.

The Baranciks have said they are stepping up with this capping challenge because they've grown to love Sarasota over decades and know in their hearts that this community always rises to the occasion.

We have no doubt our region can rise to the occasion to help our friends and neighbors on the verge of homelessness.
