Arts & Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County Partnership Introducing Brian Hersh and Lindsey Mintz

Posted on October 30, 2023 by Victoria Finley, Patriot Plaza Initiative

At The Patterson Foundation, we value our community partners and respect our collaborative contributions to the initiatives we engage in together. Patriot Plaza, the longest-standing TPF initiative, continues that meaningful pursuit—partnering with like-minded agencies that steward excellence.

This year, The Patterson Foundation revisited its alignment with the Arts & Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County as it welcomed new executive leadership. Brian Hersh, a community arts education professional, took the helm as CEO in June 2023. Continuing their longstanding collaboration with The Patterson Foundation and Patriot Plaza, Brian searched and found a well-suited candidate for the important role of Patriot Plaza Tour Coordinator.

In August 2023, Lindsey Mintz joyfully accepted the role. Lindsey has what it takes to recruit, train, organize, and nurture the Patriot Plaza guides. She coordinates tours for hundreds of 4th through 12th-grade students across Sarasota County who visit and learn through the EdExploreSRQ curriculum and tours for schools in Charlotte, DeSoto, and Manatee counties. In addition to partnering with the Arts & Cultural Alliance, The Patterson Foundation generously covers the busing expenses for students visiting Patriot Plaza across Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee, and Sarasota counties.

The primary responsibility of the Patriot Plaza Tour Coordinator is to ensure that the guides have what they need to escort Patriot Plaza visitors through their plaza experience. Each guide can tell you that no tour is the same—Patriot Plaza visitors uniquely express their impressions of the art and the honor that resides on the plaza pavers. The guides listen with their hearts and lead visitors to experience their own personal plaza journey.

Linda Gould, a Patriot Plaza consultant with The Patterson Foundation, continues to provide the historical and hands-on knowledge that Brian and Lindsey need to keep the Patriot Plaza tour experience polished. It’s an important asset—experience and knowledge—that requires care in preserving—and Linda brings that to the Patriot Plaza table with her passion and love for all the plaza represents.

I’m new to The Patterson Foundation team and to the stewardship of Patriot Plaza. But one thing I understand and remain mindful of is something that Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation, shared with me in my interview for this initiative. She told me, “The tour guides are so valuable to the entire Patriot Plaza experience. We have the privilege and responsibility to nurture them for the gems they are to our community.”

Brian Hersh, Lindsey Mintz, and Linda Gould are committed to that aim. So am I.

We enjoy learning and nurturing alongside one another as we extend the gracious invitation to experience Patriot Plaza to the community.
