A Changing of the Guard

A Changing of the Guard

Posted on July 27, 2023 by Michael Corley, consultant with The Patterson Foundation
At the end of 2021, I was asked to become the initiative consultant for the Patriot Plaza initiative as Sandy Beckley was retiring from this role. I was honored (Patriot Plaza is such a special place) and humbled -- how the heck does one replace Sandy Beckley, who built Patriot Plaza?. I was also reluctant because what did I know about maintaining an amphitheater and all types of meaningful art (I knew nothing), and what did I know about serving in the military and engaging the military community (again...nothing). I was thinking that I wasn't a good fit for this role.

But in typical TPF fashion, I was assured by Debra Jacobs, CEO, that I would have a team with members who were experts in these areas and passionate about Patriot Plaza. Enter Ret. Col. Linda Gould (Army) and Ret. Lt. Col. Scott Lempe (Air Force). She was right, and I quickly learned that my role was to stay out of their way and let them do their jobs. And, oh boy, have they!

vFinleyI have been so fortunate to work with Sandy through her transition and with Scott and Linda over the past 1.5 years. Their passion, professionalism, and knowledge are inspiring. And as we near the 10th Anniversary of Patriot Plaza in 2024, it is the right time to transition to a new initiative consultant who will continue the legacy of Patriot Plaza. Enter Victoria Finley. Victoria has quite a connection to Patriot Plaza (ask her), and she is every bit as passionate about how special it is as Sandy, Scott, and Linda.

Continuing Sandy's legacy and working with Scott and Linda has been an honor. I look forward to Victoria's leadership as the Patriot Plaza initiative continues to impact people in our community.
