Match for student tuition assistance increases to $1.1 million
Posted on September 25, 2012 by The Patterson FoundationThe Patterson Foundation announced today that it will now match up to $1.1 million in qualified donations made to the Sister M. Lucia Haas Scholarship Endowment, which benefits student tuition assistance at Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School, part of the Diocese of Venice in Florida. Donations made until December 31 may qualify for the match.
The Patterson Foundation established the endowment to honor the faith and friendship of Dorothy Patterson and Sister M. Lucia Haas, president of Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School. A campaign kickoff for the initial $1 million match was held at the high school in April 2011.
“We increased the Cardinal Mooney match by $100,000 because the community has already responded so generously,” said Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation. “We hope that between now and the end of the year individuals will take advantage of this opportunity to double new contributions, ensuring that future financially needy students will achieve their educational goals.”
Earlier this year, the campaign was given a boost by an anonymous donor who contributed $100,000 to the endowment. The Patterson Foundation’s match doubled this qualified donation, among others.
“We continue to be grateful and very humbled by the outpouring of support from our community,” said Sister M. Lucia Haas, president of Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School. “It is an honor to have an endowment that will help students in need receive a rigorous academic and values-centered education for many years to come.”
