From Sign-up to Success: Why Digital Readiness Matters in the 2026 Giving Challenge
Posted on March 17, 2026 by Alicia Exantus, consultant with The Patterson FoundationAs the 2026 Giving Challenge approaches, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations across the region are preparing for one of the most impactful and highly digital fundraising opportunities of the year. The Giving Challenge relies heavily on digital connection and access at every stage. Organizations must use computers and reliable internet service to create their online profile according to Giving Challenge guidelines, submit required materials for review to the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, and receive notification of their approval status through the online system.
Once approved, participation continues to depend on strong digital engagement. During the 24-hour giving period, nonprofits are required to use email, social media, websites, and other online platforms to promote their programs and services, inform supporters, and encourage donations through the Giving Challenge website. Success is directly tied to an organization’s ability to communicate clearly and consistently in digital spaces.
Donors also rely entirely on digital access. Using the Giving Challenge search feature, they can explore participating organizations, filter by causes that match their interests, review profiles, and learn more before deciding where to give. A nonprofit’s online presence and messaging often determine whether a donor chooses to contribute.
To help organizations prepare for this digital-first event, the Fueling Dynamic Fundraising initiative, in partnership with the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, offered a three-part training series led by consultants from The Patterson Foundation. These sessions guided nonprofits through planning, communication strategy, and execution, reinforcing that thoughtful preparation and strong digital readiness are essential to maximizing impact during the Giving Challenge. Those recordings can be found here.
