Fostering Wide Participation in DeSoto County

Posted on April 11, 2024 by Cheri Coryea, consultant with The Patterson Foundation
Getting stakeholders and the residents together in DeSoto County has been one of the joyful efforts The Patterson Foundation (TPF) has undertaken in the Aspirations to Actions (A2A) initiative in the last several years. Reaching residents where they are has been a key ingredient to this recipe. TPF and other *funder partners have been contributing to expanding the DeSoto County recipe of fostering wide participation since the DeSoto “Solutions to Actions” Dive into Discovery Community event in October 2023.

When 388 people from the community register for an event, 305 attend, 155 identify one or more of the 8 DeSoto Themes to work in, and 50 organizations share at the exhibitor’s resource fair, you know you have started a movement of fostering wide participation encouraging people to share their cookies – their information and resources. This event fostered new connections and celebration efforts to forge a positive future.

Keeping track of the excitement and new efforts achieved by all the organizations invested in the positive movement of DeSoto County has been like adding new ingredients to a long-standing recipe. Each time you make the recipe, you pick up a flavor that enhances the product and draws more people, organizations, and community members into the fold.

As the spring of 2024 unfolds, we look forward to sharing our cookies with all DeSoto County stakeholders. We know that the cookie jar has just begun to fill up with cookies from all who care about DeSoto County and want to spread knowledge, perspectives, experiences, and aspirations. Sharing these cookies leads to building trust, growing relationships, and propelling possibilities.
