I had those moments after attending The Fund Raising School courses through Indiana University's Lilly Family School of Philanthropy (LFSOP). The instructors shared such practical knowledge of fundraising skills and techniques, helped me rethink how fundraising should be ingrained into organizational culture, and identified prospective donors I had never thought about.
At the time I took these courses at The Fund Raising School, I was working as a fundraising and development fellow at a small nonprofit and volunteering heavily in a fundraising student organization as VP of external relations. So, I had quite a bit of fundraising planning and executing on my plate. I was stuck in that I didn't know where to start with so much to accomplish. The instructors helped break down this huge task of fundraising into actionable to-dos. Also, they helped me to explain to the teams I was a part of how everyone at a nonprofit plays a role in fundraising, whether or not they are in a direct development role.
I bet you might be wondering why I'm telling you about my meaningful time at The Fund Raising School (TFRS). It's not just because I am a very proud LFSOP alum. It's also because you may have the opportunity to participate in a TFRS course too–right here in Florida!
Fueling Dynamic Fundraising (FDF), an initiative of The Patterson Foundation, is designed to assist nonprofits in creating and executing strong fundraising programs. Through a continuing partnership with the LFSOP and TFRS, local nonprofits can receive in-person training from TFRS faculty fully funded by The Patterson Foundation. Following the successful completion of the fundraising course, organizations can also request to participate in the initiative's fully funded, ongoing consulting phase, which will provide support for implementing what was learned.
If your organization is/does the following things, you can apply to participate in The Fund Raising School courses.
- Is a Giving Partner
- Has a staff member, volunteer, or board member who has:
- been with your organization for at least one year; and
- has a role in your organization's fundraising
