One Park for All: Something for Everyone at The Bay

Posted on April 10, 2024 by Alexa Carr, TPF Fellow 2023/24

Whenever I’m asked about my favorite parts of Sarasota (and I’m asked a surprising amount as a new Sarasota resident), The Bay is always sure to come up. The Bay’s tagline is One Park for All, and they absolutely mean it. From kayaking to free exercise classes to outdoor movie nights and concerts to beautiful sunset walks, there is truly something for everyone at The Bay. And–if you’re like me–there are many things for you there.

The Patterson Foundation supports The Bay through strategic consulting and catalytic funding. Currently, The Patterson Foundation has committed up to $4 million through a matching challenge for private donors. Each time private philanthropy donates $5 million toward Phase 1 through December 31, 2024, The Patterson Foundation will provide a $1 million match, up to a total contribution of $4 million — resulting in a $24 million investment into The Bay.

At the end of January, The Patterson Foundation hosted its annual Immersion, a day in which all of the staff and consultants at The Patterson Foundation come together to strengthen our relationship as a team and dive into TPF values. This year, Immersion was hosted at Art Center Sarasota. Luckily for us, this put us in the perfect position to take a full team tour of The Bay. It was so incredible to learn from The Bay team members Frances Bermudez and Diana Sheehan about the mission, activities, and the amazing environmental impact The Bay has, like the denitrification trench and the restored mangroves. Read more about both of those environmental measures and more here.

If you want to experience The Bay yourself–which I clearly highly recommend–visit the events calendar to find an activity that you’d enjoy. Or, just go and wander. Either way, I’m sure after visiting, you’ll realize why their tagline is One Park for All.
