Facebook Challenge Raises $48,100 for AFFC
Posted on March 01, 2011 by The Patterson FoundationThe Patterson Foundation (TPF) was inspired by the Arthritis Foundation Florida Chapter's (AFFC) demonstrated dedication and active participation in pursuing funding for its programs. Through the efforts of AFFC's fundraising, it has impacted the lives of thousands of individuals with arthritis throughout Florida.
To help raise awareness, build communications capacity within AFFC and help inspire philanthropy through the online community, TPF offered an additional challenge to the Arthritis Foundation Florida Chapter, donating $10 for every individual who joined AFFC on its Facebook page - up to $50,000.
The Facebook challenge was issued in conjunction with AFFC's eight statewide Jingle Bell Run/Walk events. By the December 2010 deadline, AFFC collected 4,810 new Facebook "likes," resulting in a donation from TPF of $48,100.
While the Facebook donation challenge total was just shy of its $50,000 goal, it showed the power social media can offer as a philanthropic tool, adding more than 4,000 followers to AFFC's Facebook page in just three weeks.
