Exploring community perceptions of 'Aging with Dignity and Independence'

Posted on April 19, 2011 by The Patterson Foundation

With more than 32 percent of its residents over age 65, Sarasota County is considered the oldest large county in the United States and is at the forefront of aging trends. It provides a unique setting to study and create approaches to enhance aging with dignity and independence.

Through listening to the lived-experience of local residents - both older adults and those who interact with them - the Aging with Dignity & Independence Initiative will develop approaches – some using technology – to foster dignity and independence in the community.

This multiyear initiative, funded by The Patterson Foundation, will grow from the groundwork of this first year’s listening and discovery phase. Subsequent phases involve design and application.
