Engaging Voters: Why The Patterson Foundation Promotes Civic Responsibility

In this episode of the Civic Sparks podcast, I had an opportunity to sit down with The Patterson Foundation’s President and CEO, Debra Jacobs, to learn about why TPF cares about investing in civic responsibility. The answer? It begins with our history in mind. 

Debra and I talked through the history of The Patterson Foundation and its continued commitment to knowledge sharing and widespread participation. Identifying that voting is perhaps the most important place to encourage widespread participation. In order to stimulate voter turnout, we’ve got to find ways to demystify the process, remove barriers, make information accessible, and help voters feel confident. 

Through our Voter Education initiative, The Patterson Foundation continues to explore ways to engage with voters by connecting them with resources like Vote411.org and by distributing detailed flyers in English and Spanish filled with pertinent election information. TPF's flyers address important dates in all four counties we serve: Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee, and Sarasota. Additionally, you’ll find hotline numbers for help on election day, information to connect with your county’s Supervisor of Elections, tips for being prepared, and links to check your registration and/or register to vote.
