Center for Disaster Philanthropy and The Patterson Foundation Featured at Exponent Philanthropy Virtual Conference

Posted on October 20, 2021 by The Patterson Foundation

Learnings from more than a decade of strategic recovery efforts following global disasters will be shared at Exponent Philanthropy's 2021 Virtual Annual Conference. During a Member Spotlight session on Thursday, Oct. 21, attendees will have the opportunity to stream a pre-recorded conversation between Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation, and Patty McIlreavy, president and CEO of the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, with multiple ways to connect with both on their collective experiences in generating long-term impact for people, organizations, and communities recovering from disasters.

In 2020, philanthropy reinforced its critical role in communities' recovery and resilience through flexible and generous responses to the global pandemic, societal injustices, and other disasters. "Disasters within a Disaster: Partnering for Recovery & Resiliency" provides an opportunity to connect and discover how to continue to advance philanthropic ambitions through a greater attentiveness to how disasters impact people. Attendees will gain an understanding of how disasters alter realities for communities and how to remain an attentive and effective partner in their recovery while recognizing and valuing the benefit of mutual respect and collaboration in disaster philanthropy to improve a program's impact.

Exponent Philanthropy's Annual Conference brings together philanthropists from across the country, empowering leaders to leverage resources to amplify their impact in the world. Exponent Philanthropy's members are committed to giving big while keeping operations lean with few or no staff.

This three-day virtual convening will use creative technology to deliver educational content via keynote talks, instructive breakout sessions, and informal idea exchange. While safe in homes and offices around the country, participants will have more access than ever to conference speakers, sessions, and fellow participants. They will interact directly with speakers during session Q&A chats and daily video after-chats.

The Center for Disaster Philanthropy's mission is to leverage the power of philanthropy to mobilize a full range of resources that strengthen the ability of communities to withstand disasters and recover equitably when they occur. CDP manages domestic and international Disaster Funds on behalf of corporations, foundations, and individuals through targeted holistic and localized grantmaking.

The Patterson Foundation (TPF) strengthens the efforts of people, organizations, and communities. The foundation focuses on issues that address common aspirations and foster wide participation, along with ways organizations learn and share as they evolve. TPF has been a long-time supporter of CDP and its mission to strengthen communities recovering from disasters. Since 2013, The Patterson Foundation has given more than $5 million total to CDP toward operations and recovery efforts following several disasters worldwide.

The pre-recorded session will be streamed from 3:00-3:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21. Attendees will be able to connect through a text chat throughout the session. Additionally, attendees are invited to participate in a live video AfterChat with both leaders at 4:45 p.m. on the day of the Member Spotlight session.

Register for Exponent Philanthropy's Virtual Annual Conference to attend the session.
