Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School Exceeds Match for Tuition Assistance
Posted on January 30, 2013 by The Patterson FoundationCardinal Mooney Catholic High School in Sarasota recently exceeded its goal of raising $1 million as a challenge from The Patterson Foundation for the Sister M. Lucia Haas Scholarship Endowment. An additional $100,000 match was offered by The Patterson Foundation and Cardinal Mooney had until the end of 2012 to reach that goal.
Sister Lucia said she is proud of the generous support given to Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School and the scholarship fund throughout the fundraising process.
“People truly responded to the challenge for Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School to continue to make an impact in the community,” Sister Lucia said. “Gifts of all sizes contributed to reaching this goal, which will continue to ensure that all children who want to go to Cardinal Mooney in the future will be able to attend no matter their financial need.”
The total scholarship endowment will be approximately $3.2 million when all committed funds are collected and matched. The Patterson Foundation issued the challenge to inpsire philanthropy in honor of the foundation's benefactor, Dorothy Patterson, and her Catholic faith and friendship with Sister M. Lucia Haas.
“The success of the match—and the fact that CMHS exceeded it—is a true testament to Sister Lucia, our generous community and those who care deeply about education,” said Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation. "We are thrilled that so many students will benefit from the Sister M. Lucia Haas Scholarship
Endowment."
