Bringing Science Home, a partnership between USF Health and The Patterson Foundation, offered a weekend retreat for students with diabetes called “Dtreat” July 1-3, at the USF campus.
The event was organized through Bringing Science Home’s Students with Diabetes organization in partnership with the Diabetes Education and Camping Association. Both organizations are invested in assisting young people with diabetes transition from dependence to independence as they move into adulthood.
Approximately 40 attendees participated in the retreat, which was hosted at the USF campus for a nominal fee. The event included workshops, educational discussions and sessions on health insurance, stress and social issues. Bringing Science Home’s Executive Director Nicole Johnson described the weekend as, “three days of bonding, learning and engaging about life with diabetes as a young adult.”
