Beyond The Blog Features Patriot Plaza’s Legacy and The Rehoming of Testimonies’ Six Tablets

Following The Patterson Foundation's Echoes of Valor: A Patriot Plaza Luncheon on February 19th at The Ora, I had the pleasure of inviting Victoria Finley, Patriot Plaza's initiative lead, to join me in a Beyond The Blog conversation to explore the rehoming of seven Patriot Plaza Testimonies tablets to six local agencies in the Suncoast and understand the significance of these meaningful gifts. 

WHAT IS PATRIOT PLAZA?
First, we dove into Patriot Plaza to set the context of the conversation. Dedicated and donated to the National Cemetery Administration on June 28th, 2014, Patriot Plaza is a 2,800-seat ceremonial amphitheater at Sarasota National Cemetery (SNC) in Florida. It features commissioned art that honors veterans, inspires patriotism, and embraces freedom. 

WHAT ARE TESTIMONIES? 
Patriot Plaza's Testimonies collection contains 16 photographs positioned and displayed in Georgia white marble slabs that coordinate with the surrounding headstones of those veterans and their spouses and/or dependents resting at the Sarasota National Cemetery. The Testimonies artwork combines a poignant military journalistic photograph capturing a moment in time—showing the angst and joy of military service, sacrifice, and family. Each piece combines the photograph with an illustration and words expressing the heart of the art.

Beginning in 2022, The Patterson Foundation began creating new opportunities for our community to connect with Patriot Plaza's stories of service and sacrifice by contributing pieces of its commissioned artwork to community partners working to strengthen our veterans and military families. Each piece of art once stood within the Testimonies exhibit at Patriot Plaza before replacement during the amphitheater's regular upkeep. 

The Echoes of Valor: A Patriot Plaza luncheon celebrated the installment of seven Testimonies tablets across the following selected community agencies:

• Tidewell Hospice Sarasota (Video) – Tablets Support 
• Goodwill Manasota – (Video) – Tablet Integrity 
• University of South Florida (Video) – Tablet Sacrifice 
• Sarasota Military Academy (Video) – Tablet Courage 
• Ringling College of Art and Design – Tablet Resilience
• Community Foundation of Sarasota – Tablet Morale
• Tidewell Foundation (Video) – Tablet Legacy 

WHAT ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS BTB CONVERSATION? 

• Honoring Veterans: Victoria shared how Patriot Plaza serves as a tribute to veterans. Her remarks highlight the dedication, sacrifice, and bravery of those who have served in the military. Patriot Plaza is not just a physical space but a symbol of respect and remembrance designed to honor past, present, and future service members.
• Storytelling Through Art: Patriot Plaza's artistic and architectural elements communicate themes of service, patriotism, and sacrifice. The commissioned art, such as sculptures, mosaics, and other works, were carefully curated to inspire reflection and emotional connection. Each piece of art is designed to tell a visual story, reinforcing the meaning behind the space.
• Echoes of Valor: With the rehoming of seven tablets from the Testimonies collection, Patriot Plaza's legacy now echoes around the community, ensuring that its stories and tribute to veterans continue to inspire beyond Sarasota National Cemetery's grounds.
