How does positive community change occur? How do we ensure community engagement by all citizens when we, as leaders, make decisions? How do we create authentic hope?
These questions are considered by communities all across the nation as they deal with pivotal issues including education, health care, transportation, job creation, etc. Can you remember a time when our community or your organization began an initiative only to fall short of the goal due to lack of community engagement?
Rich Harwood, the founder and president of The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation, offers ideas and methodologies that have assisted communities in addressing these questions. Rich and his team are in our local region this week to kickoff a Public Innovators Lab to share numerous tools to engage our community and our citizens.
Over the next few blogs, I will begin to share with you some of the tools that The Harwood Institute offers to communities. We will begin with the tool of “turning outward” to inform decisions you make in your personal life and in the life of your organization and your community. Stay tuned!
