DeSoto Local College Access Network Focuses on Advancing College Access and Student Success

The DeSoto Local College Access Network (LCAN), convened by United Way Suncoast in partnership with the Florida College Access Network, continues to build momentum in expanding postsecondary access and success for DeSoto County students.

Since its launch in August 2025, the LCAN has brought together key partners, including the DeSoto County School District, South Florida State College, CareerSource Heartland, which recently joined the LCAN and strengthens alignment between education and workforce pathways, Links to Success, DeSoto Education Foundation, DeSoto Chamber of Commerce, The William G. and Marie Selby Foundation, The Patterson Foundation, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties to align efforts and create clearer pathways to education, training, and in-demand careers beyond high school.

Recent efforts have focused on increasing FAFSA completion through targeted workshops at DeSoto High School, connecting students and families to financial aid resources, and using real-time data to guide outreach and identify gaps. The LCAN is also advancing strategies to connect students to high-value career pathways aligned with local workforce needs.

The LCAN meets quarterly and continues to expand its work through collaboration and data-driven action. The DeSoto LCAN webpage is now live and will be regularly updated with resources, events, and opportunities to get involved.
