Bulldog Corner Opens with Community Pride at the Heart of the Celebration

Community members, local leaders, and supporters gathered to celebrate the grand opening and ribbon-cutting of Bulldog Corner, a new school-spirit retail shop inside the Arcadia-DeSoto County Habitat for Humanity ReStore. The event marked the opening of a new storefront and celebrated community pride and collaboration.

Bulldog Corner was launched through Margin & Mission Ignition (MMI), a 30-month opportunity presented by The Patterson Foundation that helps nonprofit organizations develop earned-income strategies to strengthen their missions. Proceeds from Bulldog Corner will support Arcadia-DeSoto County Habitat for Humanity's work to build safe, affordable housing in DeSoto County while creating a place where residents can proudly support their hometown Bulldogs.

The excitement surrounding the grand opening was evident throughout the celebration.

"The excitement and energy in the room were incredible," said Holly Layport. "The presentation of a signed helmet from the 2026–2027 DeSoto Bulldogs football team to Bulldog Corner was a symbol of unity, pride, and support... We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Bulldog Corner as our community spirit continues to grow."

As a DeSoto High alumna, Lindsay Heine shared, "It feels like a real step toward rebuilding that pride, supporting our athletes, and giving them the extra motivation to bring home those wins for DeSoto County."

"Seeing our community come together to celebrate Bulldog Corner's grand opening makes me proud to live and raise my kids in DeSoto County," added Heather Fugate.

Reflecting on the broader impact of the initiative, Sondra Guffey said, "Bulldog Corner is more than a store; it's the center for renewed community spirit."

Echoing that sentiment, Darrel Nicklow shared, "I truly believe it will bring some spirit back to the town of Arcadia."

For Jennifer Bowser, Executive Director of Arcadia-DeSoto County Habitat for Humanity, the celebration was a reflection of the many people who helped turn the vision into reality.

"My heart is truly full as I think about everyone who joined us yesterday to celebrate the opening of Bulldog Corner and made the day more special than we could have imagined. I am deeply grateful to our donors, vendors, employees, and volunteers who gave so generously of their time, talents, and resources. This dream became a reality because each of you believed in it and helped carry it forward."

More than a retail shop, Bulldog Corner represents what is possible when a community rallies around a shared aspiration. Every purchase supports Habitat's mission of building safe, affordable housing while strengthening the Bulldog pride that makes DeSoto County a special place to call home.
