2025 DeSoto County Ahead Resource Fair: A Showcase of Connection and Collaboration
Posted on February 19, 2025 by Lyndsey Smith, consultant with The Patterson FoundationFrom start to finish, the DeSoto County Ahead Community Update Dinner and Resource Fair was an incredible experience, providing an opportunity to connect with many amazing organizations in DeSoto County. This year's event surpassed all expectations, with 67 organizations signing up to "share their cookies" and knowledge with the community.
Leading up to the big day, we had the opportunity to meet with participating organizations during our information sessions. These sessions allowed us to familiarize ourselves with the setup plan and discuss what to expect on the day of the event. Or so we thought! Nothing could have prepared us for the awe-inspiring transformation of the Turner Center on January 8th.
As we walked into the venue, we were met with a beautifully decorated space, meticulously arranged to create an inviting and collaborative atmosphere. It was a room ready to welcome community members eager to explore resources, build connections, and learn more about what DeSoto County offers. Excitement was in the air as organizations set up their tables, and the stage was set for a night of inspiration and impact.
As the evening progressed, the Turner Center became a hub of activity, showcasing community organizations and the valuable resources they provide. Attendees moved from table to table, engaging with exhibitors, asking questions, and collecting stickers for their passports.
One of the most heartwarming moments came as community members submitted their completed passports for a chance to win an honorarium. When I asked attendees if they already had an organization in mind to support, the heartfelt stories they shared moved me deeply. These stories highlighted the meaningful ways organizations in DeSoto County have touched lives and made a lasting impact. Hearing firsthand how these resources have strengthened the community was an experience I will not forget.
This year's resource fair was more than just an event; it celebrated collaboration and connection. It brought together people from all walks of life to learn, share, and grow together. As I reflect on the evening, I'm filled with gratitude for everyone who participated and contributed to its success. The fair was a true testament to the power of community and the incredible things we can achieve when we come together so that we can "Build our future with every voice."
