The partnership of Bishop Parker Foundation, The Patterson Foundation, and The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation is intentionally focused on one of the fastest‑growing regions in Florida and in the country. Together, these organizations are investing in a long‑term effort to strengthen civic culture, deepen community connection, and support residents in shaping a shared future.

Our second episode features Mrs. Norma Kennedy, a beloved lifelong North River resident, community leader, volunteer, and remarkable octogenarian who rediscovered her purpose after a season of deep personal grief. Norma is cherished across Parrish and North River for her steady leadership, her generous heart, and her commitment to serving others. She is the 2026 Manatee County Distinguished Citizen of the Year, and a scholarship was recently established in her honor, testament to the impact she has made in the community.

In our conversation, we discuss how Norma has advocated for Parrish High School, local parks, and countless community initiatives, how she has worked to bring people together, and why she believes most residents share the same hopes for their community and their lives.

She has held leadership roles across the arts, history, civic engagement, education, tourism, and community development. Norma’s dedication to North River is fueled by her desire to preserve what makes the community special while helping it evolve to meet the needs of future generations. She sees her service as a way to honor her roots, support her neighbors, and contribute to a shared vision for a stronger, more connected North River.
