Research shows EdExplorations benefit students, teachers

Last fall, the first EdExploration funding was awarded to teachers and schools from the Education Foundation of Sarasota County. These funds assist teachers in taking full advantage of the curriculum-aligned experiences referenced in EdExploreSRQ.com. Today, the evaluation results from the first year of funding are in and describe just how much these experiences impact student learning.

The evaluation findings, researched and compiled by Carlene Judge, former Sarasota County School District director for research and evaluation, include quantitative and qualitative information.

Here are the results at a glance:

- Teachers documented improved understanding of scientific concepts, and in some cases, "getting it" earlier in the school year

- Improved reading scores

- Greater context for learning

- Writing proficiency improvements

- Understanding of sound principles through music
