The Patterson Foundation to Provide Match to Strengthen Nonprofit Earned-Income Plans

November 16, 2017
SARASOTA, Fla. (Nov. 16, 2017) – The Patterson Foundation announced it will support the four nonprofits participating in its Margin & Mission Ignition initiative by matching contributions made toward the startup costs of each organization’s earned-income plans. Funds contributed to participating organizations will be matched dollar for dollar up to 50 percent of each organization’s startup budget by Feb. 15, 2018, jumpstarting each nonprofit’s ability to implement entrepreneurial plans that strengthen their capacity to serve the community.

The Patterson Foundation created Margin & Mission Ignition to help nonprofits in our region explore, develop, and implement strategies that increase entrepreneurial capacity and heighten mission impact. Each organization participating in the 18-month process is receiving extensive guidance from No Margin, No Mission, a social enterprise and national consulting firm engaged by The Patterson Foundation. This is the third year The Patterson Foundation has presented Margin & Mission Ignition. Between January and September, the organizations participating in the initiative collectively earned $1,465,000.

“To strengthen their mission impact and better serve the community, nonprofits should plan for financial thrivability so they don’t have to rely solely on traditional sources of revenue,” said Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation. “The four organizations participating in Margin & Mission Ignition demonstrate the leadership, willingness, readiness, capacity, and culture necessary to undertake this journey toward building greater entrepreneurial capacity. Early investors who participate in the match will double their impact.”

Pledges, in-kind contributions, and debt funding are not eligible to be matched.

The following organizations are seeking investors for their 2017 Margin & Mission Ignition earned-income plans:
Humane Society of Manatee County
Peace River Wildlife Center
Prospect Riding Center
Satchel’s Last Resort
