The Patterson Foundation Distributes Match for Nonprofit Earned-Income Plans

March 20, 2018
SARASOTA, Fla. (March 20, 2018) — The Patterson Foundation strengthened the fundraising efforts of the four nonprofits participating in the Margin & Mission Ignition initiative by matching contributions made toward the startup costs of each organization’s earned-income plan. The Foundation matched more than $134,000 to support the organizations’ entrepreneurial endeavors, which are designed to generate revenue that increases their capacity to serve the community.

Margin & Mission Ignition was created by The Patterson Foundation to help nonprofits in our region build entrepreneurial capacity and heighten mission impact by adopting and implementing earned-income strategies. Each organization participating in the 18-month process receives extensive guidance from No Margin, No Mission, a social enterprise and national consulting firm engaged by The Patterson Foundation. This is the third year The Patterson Foundation has presented Margin & Mission Ignition. Between 2016 and 2017, the organizations participating in the initiative collectively earned more than $2.4 million.

“The nonprofits participating in Margin & Mission Ignition are dedicated to increasing their impact and expanding their services to our community,” said Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation. “The Patterson Foundation’s match provided the boost they needed to spark interest from donors and raise the capital necessary to turn their aspirations into reality.”

The funds from the match will help the nonprofits develop and implement the services outlined in their earned-income plans. As they put their plans into action, The Patterson Foundation will assist the organizations by providing additional consulting and technical assistance from No Margin, No Mission.

The following organizations are launching new or expanding existing ventures for their Margin & Mission Ignition earned-income plans:
  • Humane Society of Manatee County: Expanding clinical veterinary services to help meet the growing need for affordable medical treatment and care of pets by their owners in Manatee County.
  • Peace River Wildlife Center: Leveraging the strength of their highly successful brick and mortar gift store by launching an online store to sell merchandise with a mission without geographic boundaries.
  • Prospect Riding Center: Offering affordable recreational horseback riding with opportunities for instruction to individuals and groups of all ages, with proceeds supporting the organization's mission to provide equine therapy scholarships to those in need.
  • Satchel's Last Resort: Launching an animal behavior center with affordable classes and private instruction to help individuals solve issues with their problematic pets in ways that are positive and long-lasting.
