Organizations Join New Iteration of Entrepreneurial Nonprofit InitiativeAugust 02, 2018
SARASOTA, Fla. (Aug. 2, 2018) – A cohort of five nonprofits from Sarasota, Manatee, and Charlotte counties have chosen to embark on a 30-month process to strengthen their entrepreneurial capacity through Margin & Mission Ignition, an initiative of The Patterson Foundation. Through Margin & Mission Ignition, these organizations will receive expert guidance to design and implement business plans to boost revenue and heighten their mission impact.
For four years, Margin & Mission Ignition has afforded regional nonprofits the opportunity to strengthen and sustain their ability to serve their communities by generating income. As of March, the 16 organizations that participated in previous iterations of Margin & Mission Ignition collectively generated more than $3.3 million in revenue.
“Margin & Mission Ignition has served as a platform for nonprofits to learn and take the evolutionary steps necessary to become thrivable, sustainable organizations with greater impact in our region,” said Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation. “The leadership, willingness, readiness, capacity and culture demonstrated by this cohort will facilitate their efforts to strengthen their entrepreneurial capacity over this 30-month process.”
Through Margin & Mission Ignition, The Patterson Foundation engages No Margin, No Mission, a social enterprise and national consulting firm, to work with each nonprofit in the cohort. No Margin, No mission teaches the nonprofits entrepreneurial principles and helps them explore and implement revenue-generating ventures, such as expanding their current service offerings or creating new ones.The following organizations are participating in Margin & Mission Ignition 2018:
- Beyond the Spectrum
- Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary
- The Charlotte County Art Guild, Inc. dba Visual Arts Center
- Manatee County Habitat for Humanity
Each of these nonprofits attended a series of learning labs with No Margin, No Mission in April and took assessments of their readiness to take on earned-income planning before applying to participate in the 30-month process. Throughout this process, No Margin, No Mission will assemble the cohort to learn from one another and share their experiences as they build and execute their business plans.
