The Patterson Foundation to Match Donations Up to $500,000 for EdExploreSRQ.com

Posted on August 12, 2011 by The Patterson Foundation

To inspire further generosity, The Patterson Foundation will match new and increased donations up to $500,000 raised by the Education Foundation of Sarasota County over the next three years for EdExploreSRQ.com, an online education platform. Half of the matched donations will seed an endowment fund and the other half will fund teacher and school ‘exploration’ grants for experiential learning projects posted on EdExploreSRQ.com.

EdExplore allows Sarasota County teachers to access and view explorations available throughout the school year. Area arts, science and history organizations can apply to have their programs included on the site.

To be included in the site’s database, programs must meet certain state curriculum benchmarks and requirements.

When The Patterson Foundation launched its Cultural Connections with Students Initiative in January 2010, one of the initiative's goals was to partner with the local community to develop, design and implement sustainable programs that leverage Sarasota arts, science and history assets into an experiential and integrative curriculum.

After surveying area schoolteachers and 36 local science and cultural organizations to learn how students engage and participate in cultural experiences, the initiative's surveys found that these experiences were extremely important and supported and enhanced student learning. EdExplore was created to bring these entities together to make it easier for teachers to access the information and for students to benefit from area cultural and science experiences.
