Season of Sharing is still going strong! In just over a month the community raised an impressive $1 million, triggering our second $100,000 contribution. The campaign received a surge of support from community donors during the holidays, fueled by the giving spirit of the season.
“Every milestone reached during Season of Sharing is a testament to our community’s generosity,” said Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation. “Everyone has the power to make a difference. We know the community will continue to step up to the plate to trigger our next contribution and help even more local families on the verge of homelessness.”
A longtime supporter of Season of Sharing, The Patterson Foundation will contribute $100,000 each time the community raises $500,000. So far, the foundation has contributed $200,000 to this year’s campaign – a figure that will continue to grow as more milestones are met by the community. There is no cap on the total contribution.
Each $100,000 incentive contributed during Season of Sharing will help at least 100 additional families in our community maintain stable housing by providing targeted financial assistance for vital needs like rent, utilities, car repair and other emergency expenses.
Created through a partnership between the Herald-Tribune Media Group and the Community Foundation of Sarasota County in 2000, the campaign has helped more than 12,000 families to date, with only 15 percent requiring additional assistance the following year.
“The Patterson Foundation’s demonstration of caring values for our citizens in need has been instrumental in motivating additional giving in our community,” said Roxie Jerde, president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. “These matching funds, coupled with the knowledge that every dollar is distributed with thoughtfulness to ensure those in need are able to remain in their homes, make Season of Sharing a compelling proposition for everyone who contributes.”
Since 2000, Season of Sharing has raised more than $13 million to help families in need in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and DeSoto counties. Each year, staff of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, the Herald-Tribune Media Group and nonprofit organizations donate hundreds of hours for project management, administration and creative planning to ensure that 100 percent of each donation goes directly to help those in need.
