Season of Sharing: $4.6 million and three years of collaborative philanthropy

Posted on March 30, 2012 by The Patterson Foundation

Since 2009, The Patterson Foundation has supported Season of Sharing, the annual campaign that provides emergency assistance to families on the brink of homelessness. For the past three years, The Patterson Foundation has announced various matching challenges to inspire donations. In that time, our four-county region – including Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and DeSoto counties – has raised more than $4.7 million.

Season of Sharing funds are administered to agencies without overhead costs, so 100 percent of donations go directly to people in need. The Patterson Foundation supports Season of Sharing because of the unprecedented media collaboration around the campaign. Nearly every major print, broadcast and online outlet in the four-county region donates advertising and editorial space to the effort.

A look at The Patterson Foundation’s involvement with Season of Sharing:

2009 – $250,000 downstroke contribution and $250,000 match for all donations. The campaign raises $1.5 million.

2010 - $500,000 match for all new or increased donations. The campaign reaches the $1.5 million milestone for the second year, raising a total $1.52 million.

2011 - $500,000 match for all new or increased donations. The campaign sets a new record, raising $1.6 million.
