Partners Announce EdExploreSRQ.com Launch

Posted on August 09, 2011 by The Patterson Foundation

Through a collaborative partnership with The Patterson Foundation, the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County and the Science and Environment Council of Sarasota County, Sarasota County Schools has announced the launch of EdExploreSRQ, an online resource to connect teachers with Sarasota’s cultural and science experiences.

Sarasota County teachers can access and view cultural and science experiences available to students throughout the school year. Area arts, science and history organizations can apply to have their programs included on the site, which is administered by the Sarasota County Schools. Programs must meet certain state curriculum benchmarks to be included in the online resource.

When The Patterson Foundation launched its Cultural Connections with Students Initiative in January 2010, one of the initiative's goals was to partner with the local community to develop, design and implement sustainable programs that leverage Sarasota arts, science and history assets into an experiential and integrative curriculum.

After surveying area schoolteachers and 36 local science and cultural organizations to learn how students engage and participate in cultural experiences, the initiative's surveys found that these experiences were extremely important and supported and enhanced student learning. EdExplore was created to bring these entities together to make it easier for teachers to access the information and for students to benefit from area cultural and science experiences.
