EdExplore endowment brings experiential learning to students

When EdExploreSRQ launched, no one was quite sure how important it would become. Over the years and after several enhancements, EdExploreSRQ is a valuable resource for expanding the experiential learning opportunity for Sarasota County students while streamlining the effort required for this type of learning.

We all have fond memories of field trips back in our school days and even times when speakers and artists may have visited our classrooms. Each was an opportunity to experience something different.  These explorations augmented the classroom curriculum and made us better learners.  This is no different today.

Back in the day, I don’t recall these field trips costing much, if anything.  Like so many other things in school, this has changed.  Attending field trips costs money.  Creating these experiences costs money.  Taking time to coordinate these trips costs money.

Through the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, The Patterson Foundation is offering a $2.5 million, 2:1 match to help minimize the financial barrier to offering all students the opportunity to experience non-classroom learning activities. In other words, for each $1 donated into the fund, TPF will donate $2, up to $2.5 million.

In addition, TPF is matching the Community Foundation of Sarasota County’s commitment of $100,000 per year for five years, which began last year. The community foundation's funds are supporting current explorations, and TPF resources are going into the endowment.

When completed, and if fully successful, the EdExplore Endowment at the Community Foundation of Sarasota County will exceed $3 million and provide exploration funds (for experiences both inside the classroom and outside) for Sarasota County students into perpetuity.

To make a donation and support explorations for Sarasota County students, please call the Community Foundation at 941.955.3000 or email DonorServices@cfsarasota.org.
