The Patterson Foundation has contributed $100,000 to Season of Sharing in recognition of the more than $500,000 raised by the community for the effort. The Patterson Foundation will provide additional $100,000 gifts for every $500,000 raised during the annual campaign for families and individuals on the verge of homelessness in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and DeSoto counties. There is no cap on The Patterson Foundation’s total contribution to Season of Sharing, which began in November prior to Thanksgiving.
Season of Sharing has provided more than $15 million in emergency funding – covering rent, utilities, childcare and other emergency expenses that allow people to remain secure in their homes – for more than 16,000 families and individuals in the region since 2000. Of those who receive Season of Sharing funds, 85 percent achieve stability and do not require additional assistance the following year.
“Many of our neighbors face the reality of living one paycheck away from losing their homes – a fact not lost on donors throughout our region, who continue to strengthen individuals and families through their steadfast support of Season of Sharing,” said Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation. “The Patterson Foundation is hopeful this generosity will continue to trigger additional $100,000 gifts from us throughout the campaign.”
Prior to the current Season of Sharing campaign, The Patterson Foundation had contributed more than $3.3 million total to Season of Sharing since 2010. The annual campaign, created by the Herald-Tribune Media Group in partnership with the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, gives 100 percent of all donations directly to those less fortunate. Funds are managed and distributed responsibly through donations of time and expertise by more than 50 community organizations, allowing Season of Sharing to serve families and individuals without any operating expenses.
